by Brouwerij Duvel-Moortgat

The Vedett label is owned by Belgian brewing royalty Duvel-Moortgat.  They first introduced Vedett to the market in 1945 in the form of a premium pilsner.

Over the years the Vedett brand slipped from the market, but but in 2003 the Vedett Extra Blond was rebranded and marketed with a very different image.   Our beer was first introduced to the market in 2008, and is now exported all over the world.

Described as a premium white beer, it is a traditional Belgian style witbier made from pale barley malt and at least 40% wheat malt (as is required for it to be a witbier).  Coriander and orange peel are added aloing with Saaz-Saaz, Styrian Golding and Hallertau Magnum hops.

It pours a cloudy straw colour and there is a delicious aroma of grainy malt and fruity citrus and spice.  The beer is light and crisp, dancing the flavour across your tongue.  There is a good malty backbone and then the orange citrus notes with subdued coriander and some banana from the yeast.

Witbier isn’t my favourite style, far from it in fact.  But I really enjoyed this beer, and I reckon it would be in my top 5 Belgian witbiers.
