This witbier from the Scheldebrouwerij pours golden orange, with a typical witbier aroma of orange citrus, grassy hops, coriander and yeast. Brewed to a traditional wit recipe, it includes wheat malt, coriander and curacao peel.
As expected, it is light and lively; a real thirst quencher. There is an early fruit sweetness, which gives way to dry and slightly tart finish with a lingering bitterness, not so common to witbiers.
The Schedlebrouwerij started brewing in the city of Bergen op Zoom in The Netherlands, but moved just south of the Belgium border a few years back. The thinking was that being a Belgian brewery would help promote sales internationally.
They still hold onto their Dutch roots, with the label art showing the ‘two wild men’, being a reference to the coat of arms of the city of Bergen op Zoom. The two wild men appear on all Schelde labels.
