Divers is a more traditional beer from Brouwerij Contreras. It is essentially a tripel style ale, with a touch of dry, hoppy strong blond ale about it (think Duvel).
The body is a yellow straw colour, with a thick white head. There are light fruit aromas of pear and apple, with grassy hops and a little spice.
The beer exhibits a lovely balance – no single aspect jumps out, but rather the attributes work together to create a beer that can seem greater than the sum of its parts. There is a good dose of banana and clove from the Belgian yeast, along with some bready malt. The bitterness comes in midway through, working with the gentle spicing to produce a dry, lingering finish.
It is very easy drinking for a beer of 8.5% ABV. Surrounded by big hoppy, experiential beers it is sometimes pleasant to dial things back a notch and just enjoy an understated beer that works.
