Another of De Molen’s ‘Special’ beers, and one that I was really intrigued by the sound of. The name translates as ‘Summer & Passion’.
As you pour this beer you are immediately hit with the strong passionfruit aroma. One of the fruits that always screams summer to me, it lifts your mood instantly.
The first taste impression is dominated by the tart, sharp passionfruit notes that you could almost mistake for a light fruited sour beer. But as your tastebuds get used to that you are reminded that there is a weizenbock in behind.
There is a fullish malt backbone with some banana and clove notes that balance out that early tart and sour. And it is pretty hard to pick up the ABV of the beer in that fresh and lively taste.
A really good match of flavours even though it might not seem the most obvious combination at first. Perfectly timed for our spring time, I now wish I’d bought more of this beer as our beer club members will be the only ones who get to try this beer!
