Seems like we are featuring a De Molen beer in every pack lately, which isn’t such a bad thing really!
This month we have another quirky hoppy beer, the Hop & Hibiscus. For the most part this is a fairly standard double IPA that includes Sladek, Citra Cryo and Mosaic hops, but of course De Molen like to add their little twist to each beer and this comes in the form of Hibiscus flowers.
The result is a beer that pours with a pinkish hue, offering lots of fruit notes like grapefruit citrus, passionfruit and apricot with a hint of pine. There is also a definite floral note from the hibiscus.
Our beer is juicy and sweet, caramel from the malts and lots of fruit character provided by the hops. There is also a sweetness from the hibiscus that makes this beer very easy drinking. With a malt base of barley, oats and rye the mouthfeel is quite soft and creamy.
The hop bitterness does just enough to balance out the flavours without being assertive, even in the finish. And its way too easy to drink this beer for the ABV.
