by Brouwerij Palm (Swinkels Family Brewers)

The ‘Roy-Ale’ pours a clear, dark amber to golden brown, and is topped by a long lasting creamy white head which is thick and tight. The smell is not strong; mostly fruity esters of banana and apple, with subdued sweet malts and sugars.

The taste is more pronounced. The sweetish fruits are added to by caramel and vanilla, as well as hints of rich dry malts. They combine for a full and smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel. There is a slight nuttiness to the long dryish finish, complimented by a gentle alcohol warmth.

This beer was first produced in 2003 to mark the occasion of Alfred Van Roy’s 90th birthday. Being one of the founding owners of the brewery, the result was a special beer which quickly became a permanent in the production range.
