From Pinta, here we have the Hazy Morning – a hazy American-styled pale ale.
Reading through the spec sheet for this beer, I note that it is made with barley, wheat and instant oat flakes, with the wheat and oats making up more than 50% of the grain bill. That’s a pretty big percentage, so looking forward to seeing how this tastes and also feels in the mouth.
Pouring the can offers the hazy, yellow-orange body with its big tropical fruit aroma. The hops are mostly American (Columbus, Citra, Mosaic and Falconers Flight), with a good dose of Aussie Galaxy thrown in for good measure.
To taste it is at first a sweet mix of grain and tropical fruits. Pineapple, peach, orange and grapefruit stand out, with a grassy edge to the hops. It isn’t overly bitter, as might be suggested by the ‘A’PA style, but what is there balances out those fruity flavours.
On the finish there is a pleasant lingering bitterness, though the fruity notes seem to finish quite quickly. Never mind, that just means it is time to take another sip!
