The Donker is an amber-brown beer with a creamy beige foam.
A sweet aroma suggests caramel, dark sugar, a little chocolate and slightly over-ripe dark fruits like prunes and figs.
The flavour is not so sweet as the nose suggest. There is malt and fruit sweetness, tempered by a roasted malt bite and spicy yeast character. As the beer warms you may catch a hint of tart fruit on the finish.
This is a smooth and well balanced dark ale, and seems to drink above its 6.5% ABV.
History of the Breweryr: one of Belgium’s less-known breweries, but with a long tradition. Dating back to 1818 when a brewery was first established, it was brought by a member of the Contreras family in 1898.
