Here we have another of the Stone beers we brought in on that special order, though this beer isn’t one of the classics. Stone Hazy IPA was first released in August 2021, so quite a new beer for Stone given they started way back in 1996.
Stone had made losts of different IPA’s, many of which became iconic in their time. But this was their first true attempt at taking on the hazy IPA market, with a beer very different to anything they’d done previously.
The beer is a cloudy orange colour, with a rich tropical fruit aroma of orange and lemon citrus, with juicy melon thanks to the El Dorado and Azacca hops being the main late additions. There is also a little Sabro (divisive as this hop is) that adds a tropicale fruits hit of mango and pineapple.
There is a level of bitterness to this beer, though much less than the standard Stone IPAs. So while that fact alone makes it NOT a North East IPA in my book, I prefer these beers with that bitterness on the finish to lift things up.
An easy beer to enjoy with lots of inviting flavours, pretty much in keeping with what you’d expect to get from Stone in this style.
