Well, this is something different. A Lambic Witbier!
The beer is a slightly cloudy yellow straw colour, with a small thin, frothy white head. There are no surprises in the aroma - lots of lemon zest, orange, coriander, grainy malts and of course a little funkiness.
A very light mouthfeel gives the beer a really crisp character, with a defined flavour profile. A little sweetness from the bready malt is quickly joined by the standard witbier attributes of lemon and orange citrus, coriander and gentle peppery spice. In the background is the lambic, providing a refreshing tartness and slight acidity to the experience.
This is a really interesting beer, and a perfect introduction to sour beers for those not yet accustomed to the pleasures they offer.
Did you know: according to the brewery, this beer is traditionally served in an authentic stoneware pot!
