The Obscura has an attractive dark brown body, with a densely packed tan head. It has a very complex aroma of burned dark malt, sweet dark fruits and a subtle spicy or woody hint.
The flavour is intriguing. The roasted malts are immediately present, with an undercurrent of those sweetened dark fruits. There is also a soft chocolate or coffee taste that presents late. As the beer warms, the various flavours become more pronounced.
This beer really is different, and doesn't fit comfortably into any designated style. The subtle complexities in the aroma and flavour, combined with the soft mouthfeel make this a very easy beer to enjoy.
About the beer: Obscura was designed by the brewer to combine attributes of two Belgian beers he enjoyed - Westmalle Dubbel and Buffalo Stout.
