I've been hoarding away a few cases of some of Belgium's best dark beers, just waiting to do a vertical tasting with some of our members.
This will be an interesting opportunity to see how these beers evolve over time. They've all been safely tucked away in our cool room over the years so it will be great to see the difference time makes to the same beers.
For this session we will have the pleasure of tasting the following beers:
Struise Pannepot (10%) - this is the beer that made De Struise Brouwers famous, their spiced strong dark ale
We will taste vintages from 2009, 2010 and 2022
Chimay Grand Reserve (9%) - the most famous of the Trappist beers because they are the most commercial, and this is their best beer
We will taste vintages from 2011, 2016, 2020
St Bernardus ABT 12 (10%) - always compared to the Westvleteren 12 (and fair enough) but this is an outstanding beer in its own right
We will tatse vintages from 2009, 2017, 2023
As always we will have some nibbles to see you through the tasting, and I'll put something on one of the taps if you need a break from drinking these delicious dark beers.
When: Friday 14th March 2025
Where: The Beer Shed - 96a Fern Street, Islington
Time: Arrive from 6pm and we'll begin the tasting at 6.15pm
Cost: $70.00 for members (and I've made available a couple of spots for non-members at $80.00)
Format: 9 x 100ml tasting serves of each beer. We will have three glasses on the table so you can taste each of the beers in the same sitting
I hope to enjoy this experience with a bunch of you guys and girls on the 14th!
